- Axios has learned about discussions between Oman and Iran on the creation of a corridor in the Strait of Hormuz
In Oman, representatives of Iran and Oman, with the participation of the delegation of Qatar, are discussing the possibility of creating a special corridor for the unhindered passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported on July 11 by Axios portal journalist Barak Ravid, citing a regional source and an unnamed diplomat.
The negotiations are taking place in the Omani capital Muscat. According to the journalist, the main topic of the consultations is ensuring stable navigation in international waters.
"The parties are discussing a possible statement on the full opening of the "middle corridor" in the Strait of Hormuz <...> for full and unhindered movement," Ravid wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
On July 9, Bloomberg reported that as a result of new US army strikes on Iran, shipping in the Strait of Hormuz was again almost completely suspended. The agency clarified that all movements along this section mainly took place along the route approved by Tehran, while the corridor proposed by Washington remained unclaimed.
