Patrushev spoke about carefully considering the offer to work in the KGB

Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of Russia and chairman of the Russian Maritime Board, shared on July 10 that he had thought carefully before deciding whether he should agree to work for the State Security Committee (KGB).

However, now he is grateful to fate for the "positive coincidences" in his life, which have become a pattern.

"That was when I joined volleyball, it was when I studied at the [Leningrad Shipbuilding] Institute, it was when I was already working at the department, and I was offered to serve in the KGB," Patrushev said in an interview with the Vesti news agency.

According to the assistant to the head of state, he weighed the pros and cons for quite a long time after receiving an offer to work in the special services.

"I thought: why should I, why should I go? Went. I don't regret anything either, and everything is really good. They offered it to me already when I graduated [from the institute], also not immediately, they said: "Go think about it." I thought about it and said, "Okay," he pointed out.

The assistant to the President of the Russian Federation turns 75 on July 11. Patrushev graduated from the higher courses of the KGB of the USSR in Minsk in 1975. In 1998, he was appointed head of the Main Control Directorate of the President in the administration of the President of Russia Boris Yeltsin.

He served as Director of the FSB of Russia from 1999 to 2008, and was Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation from May 12, 2008.
