Makhachkala airport customs detained a man with 177 million rubles in suitcases

The Customs Service of Dagestan found 177 million rubles in cash during the baggage inspection of a passenger about to fly to Bishkek. This was announced on July 10 by the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia.

It is noted that the 38-year-old man tried to smuggle money in suitcases, arriving with them at Makhachkala airport.

"Customs officers stopped an attempt to illegally export a large amount of cash — 177 million rubles. Bundles of money were found in the suitcases of a 38-year—old Russian man en route to Bishkek," the publication says on the Maks platform.

During the interrogation, the passenger explained that he allegedly received these funds from the sale of real estate, presenting a purchase agreement and spending orders. However, the customs officers recognized the papers as fake, prohibiting the export of money.

In April, it was reported that FCS officers at the Blagoveshchensk checkpoint stopped an attempt to illegally export jewelry scrap worth 2.5 million rubles to China, which a 44-year-old foreign citizen hid in his shoes. The examination revealed that the seized items are an alloy of gold of the 585th grade weighing 215.7 g and silver weighing 17.6 g. According to the detainee, an unknown person asked him to transport the alloy across the border for a monetary reward.
