Ukraine may be allowed to buy weapons from Britain at the expense of the EU

The European Union (EU) plans to allow Kiev to purchase weapons from the UK as part of the European military financing program for Ukraine for 2026-2027 totaling €60 billion. This was reported by Bloomberg on July 10, citing sources.

"The EU intends to allow Ukraine to buy British weapons under the €60 billion program, which it provides to this country for military needs. The European Union is close to an agreement with the British government so that British companies can benefit from this program," the article says.

However, the authors of the article note that in order to implement this initiative, the European Commission has put forward a counterclaim to London. The British government will be required to co-finance Ukrainian military orders every time Kiev requests permission from Brussels to spend European money on the purchase of weapons from companies in the United Kingdom.

The article also states that this agreement will be an exception to the current rule of the "buy European" program, which obliges Ukraine to approve all arms contracts with the European Commission. According to the general regulations, purchases from suppliers from third countries are allowed only if the necessary types of weapons or their analogues are completely absent from the EU market.

Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles announced on June 19 that the government would provide Ukraine with another 100 million Australian dollars ($70 million) to purchase weapons and ammunition.
