The Senate of Paraguay condemned the statements of the senator who insulted Mbappe.

The Senate of Paraguay condemned the statement of Senator Celeste Amarilla, who insulted the striker of the French national football team Kylian Mbappe. This was reported by the newspaper Le Parisien on July 9.

According to the newspaper, the resolution was adopted after almost five hours of discussions in the upper house of the Senate.

"The Senate of Paraguay adopted a majority resolution expressing its absolute rejection of all forms of racism and discrimination," the article says.

The conflict escalated against the background of the teams' sporting results. Then the meeting of the national teams of Paraguay and France in the 1/8 finals of the 2026 World Cup ended with the victory of the European team with a score of 1:0. Mbappe scored the only goal in this game, converting a penalty kick in the 70th minute of the match.

On July 6, Senator Aamarilla racially insulted an athlete after the defeat of the Paraguayan national team. Later, she also demanded an apology from Mbappe after their correspondence conflict, as the French footballer responded by calling her a "despicable woman."

Amarilla's lawyer Duarte Cacavelos said on July 9 that the footballer could face extradition to Paraguay if he did not withdraw his statements against the politician. According to the lawyer, Mbappe's statements can be considered as slander and insult, which are criminal offenses in France.
