Dentist listed the symptoms of bruxism
Dentist Maxim Shcherbakov told on Thursday, July 9, by what signs one can guess that a person suffers from bruxism, as well as how and why it is necessary to deal with night gnashing of teeth.
He suggested paying attention to the morning symptoms: tension in the muscles of the face, a feeling of clenching teeth after waking up, frequent headache in the morning, as well as the presence of tooth prints on the tongue and chronic injury to the cheek mucosa.
"During the day, you should take a closer look at your habits: if you find yourself clenching your teeth for no reason — while working, driving, or under stress — this can also be a manifestation of Bruxism," Shcherbakov explained in an interview with aif.ru .
According to the expert, chronic stress and increased anxiety are primarily to blame for the appearance of Bruxism — it is the psycho-emotional tension that triggers the mechanism of involuntary jaw clenching.
Then additional factors are involved: malocclusion, sleep disorders, neurological diseases, heredity, gastrointestinal problems, as well as bad habits, such as chewing a pen.
The dentist warned that patients with bruxism face problems with the temporomandibular joint, exposing the roots of teeth, wedge-shaped defects, changes in appearance and premature aging due to a decrease in bite height.
Shcherbakov said that the treatment of bruxism begins with the diagnosis and identification of the cause of the disease. Most often, the first step is to see a dentist, and if necessary, other specialists can join in: neurologists, psychologists, psychotherapists, gastroenterologists.
He stressed that early diagnosis helps to preserve teeth. And before treatment, you can try to reduce the load on your jaws: avoid chewing gum, very hard food, control teeth clenching during the day, and practice relaxing techniques before going to bed.
German Dyak, dentist-therapist, orthopedist at the Atribyut clinic, told on June 29 how stress destroys teeth. According to the doctor, nervous overexertion can cause bruxism, reports RT. This leads to the fact that the enamel of teeth is erased, microcracks, chips, sensitivity appear on them, and veneers, implants, crowns and fillings are overloaded.
In turn, Tamara Kudzieva, chief physician, dentist, therapist and periodontist at Attribute Group, said that clicks and crunches in the temporomandibular joint may be a sign of Bruxism or its dysfunction. 360.ru .
Dmitry Shavrov, a periodontist at the Dantistoff network of scientific dentists, said that the hormone cortisol plays a key role in this process, the level of which increases with chronic stress.
Irina Makeeva, director of the Borovsky Sechenov University Institute of Dentistry, said that stress can cause swelling and bleeding of the gums, and in some cases even lead to tooth decay, the Moscow City News Agency reports.
