The FSB has prevented attempts on senior military officials in Moscow. What is known

On July 9, the FSB of Russia prevented a series of sabotage and terrorist acts that the Ukrainian special services, with the participation of Western curators, planned to commit on the territory of Russia. Assassination attempt on a high-ranking military officer in Moscow

The FSB foiled an assassination attempt on a senior Russian Defense Ministry soldier in Moscow. According to the agency, the target of the attack was supposed to be an officer, whose name was not disclosed. The detainees planned to use a drone equipped with an improvised explosive device for killing. The terrorist attack was supposed to take place at the moment the military entered the building. Employees of the department detained a 25-year-old Russian citizen.

According to investigators, the girl was recruited by the Ukrainian special services in 2024 through the WhatsApp messenger (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). The curator built a dialogue with her in the format of a romantic relationship, promising a personal meeting in Ukraine after completing the assignments. In March 2026, the girl rented an apartment in the capital, installed surveillance cameras to monitor the military's house and car, recorded the location of the cameras at the officer's house and transmitted the information to the curators. In the rented apartment, she prepared disguises and a supply of food for the conspiratorial residence of the perpetrator of the terrorist attack after her departure. The girl admitted her guilt and is cooperating with the investigation.

Detention of a Russian citizen in Krasnodar

A Russian citizen born in 1978 who was planning an assassination attempt in the Moscow region has been detained in Krasnodar. According to the FSB, the man had previous convictions for theft and robbery in Russia, and after his release he moved to Dnepropetrovsk (the Ukrainian name is Dnipro). In February 2026, under threat of criminal prosecution by his wife, he was recruited by the Ukrainian special services. After being recruited, the man underwent shooting and explosive training and returned to Russia in transit through Chisinau, Yerevan and Mineralnye Vody. In preparation for the crime, the defendant rented an apartment in Moscow, installed hidden video cameras for surveillance and purchased disguises. He also had to go to Kiev for additional training from Western specialists. The detainee was detained for two months.

The reaction of the authorities

Criminal cases have been initiated under articles on preparation for a terrorist act (Part 1 of Article 30, part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code) and high treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code). The sanctions of the articles provide for punishment up to life imprisonment.
