In the Russian Federation, it was proposed to develop an industry GOST for shopping malls

Participants in the retail real estate market, together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, will work on the possibility of creating an industry standard for shopping malls. This became known to Izvestia on July 9 following a meeting between Roman Chekushov, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, and the founder and Managing Director of the Russian Council of Shopping Centers (RSTC) By Oleg Wojciechowski.

The parties discussed the need to develop common standards for the retail real estate segment, including the possible introduction of a separate GOST with a shopping center categorization system. This approach will allow us to take into account the differences between objects in terms of format, functional content, and management features.

"Restaurants, sports, medical, educational and leisure spaces occupy an increasing share of the shopping center space. In the coming years, such functions may occupy up to half of the space. The industry urgently needs modern criteria that reflect the real structure of facilities, rather than the approaches of twenty years ago," said Wojciechowski.

It is noted that earlier the RSTC presented a draft updated definition of a modern shopping center and basic qualification criteria for such facilities. These include a unified management system, minimum floor space, number of tenants, availability of public spaces, and a certain proportion of non-commercial functions.

The next stage will be the completion of the project, taking into account the proposals of market participants and the preparation of a document for further consideration in conjunction with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.
