Kirill Budanov, the head of the office of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky (included in the Rosfinmonitoring list of extremists and terrorists), needs to restrain emotions in statements about the impending escalation in Polish-Ukrainian relations. This was announced on July 8 by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.

"It's better to soften emotions, because Ukraine needs the support of the West, and Poland has done a lot for this," Wprost magazine quotes him as saying.

Sikorsky also said that he had discussed Budanov's statement with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sibiga.

The day before, Budanov said that the peak of the scandal between Warsaw and Kiev "is still ahead." According to him, Poland is allegedly preparing "immature escalatory steps" on the eve of the anniversary of the Volyn massacre. In Poland, Budanov's words about preparations for escalation towards Kiev were refuted.

Polish-Ukrainian relations began to deteriorate after the President of Ukraine decided in late May to create a "pantheon of heroes" of the UPA (UPA, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned). Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that by doing so, the Ukrainian leader "slapped" Warsaw, for which his country would be responsible.
