A resident of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug (Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug) has developed a severe form of toxic hepatitis due to dietary supplements from China. The disease developed within two months of taking the drugs, the press service of the regional Department of Health reported on Wednesday, July 8.

The woman was admitted to the Nizhnevartovsk District Clinical Hospital from Pokachi. The patient was in serious condition. She rapidly developed liver failure: severe weakness, jaundice appeared, bilirubin levels went off scale and a dangerous blood clotting disorder occurred.

"When liver functions are disrupted, other organs are involved in the pathological process. One of the dangerous complications is the toxic effect of bilirubin on the brain, which can lead to the development of hepatic encephalopathy," explained Ekaterina Matrokhina, a gastroenterologist, quoted by <url> news agency.

Doctors fought for the victim's life for two months. She underwent intensive detoxification and infusion therapy, transfused fresh frozen plasma, and treated for complications. The doctors were provided with information support by colleagues from Khanty-Mansiysk via video link.

It is known that the woman bought Chinese dietary supplements on the advice of friends. The patient's spouse showed the doctors the drug packages. The specialists studied the instructions and found that the composition contained substances with hepatotoxic effects.

Now a resident of Ugra is at home and continues to recover. Her life is not in danger.

Earlier, Izvestia reported that in 2026, Russians spent 236 million rubles on Ozempika analogues, 200% more than a year earlier. At the same time, many self-prescribe prescription medications without thinking about the possible consequences.
