The optometrist called the habits spoiling eyesight in the summer
Ophthalmologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences, CEO of VISTA Clinic Anton Kazantsev named on Wednesday, July 8, five common habits that spoil eyesight in the summer season.
According to the doctor, the first and most serious mistake is to use cheap sunglasses without a UV filter. In them, the pupil dilates, allowing even more harmful radiation to pass through than without glasses, he explained in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
The expert called for choosing only eyewear models labeled UV400 or "100% UV protection" and wearing them even in cloudy weather, especially near water or in the mountains.
The second habit is associated with air conditioners that intensively dehumidify the air. As a result, the tear film evaporates faster than it recovers, which causes dry eye syndrome. The ophthalmologist recommended not to sit directly under the airflow from the air conditioner, use humidifiers and, if necessary, instill artificial tear preparations, especially for those who wear contact lenses.
In addition, the doctor stressed that it is strictly not recommended to open your eyes underwater while swimming, you must use airtight swimming goggles, and after bathing, rinse your eyes with clean water or saline solution. In this case, it is better to remove the lenses immediately after leaving the reservoir.
Another bad habit is to eat unwashed fruits and berries right on the street. After that, people touch their eyes with their hands, which leads to microbial conjunctivitis, the ophthalmologist warned.
The doctor pointed out that the fifth bad habit is prolonged exposure to the bright sun without rest and in conditions of overheating. In the heat, blood vessels dilate, intraocular pressure fluctuates, and tear fluid thickens, impairing the blood supply to the eyes, the expert concluded.
In turn, Kristina Gazzayeva, an ophthalmologist at Mozhaisk Hospital, believes that brown and green lenses of glasses best protect the eyes from ultraviolet radiation and do not distort colors, while blue, yellow and pink cope with this task worse, the Moscow city news agency reports.
On the same day, Vyacheslav Kurenkov, one of the leading Russian refractive surgeons, author of more than 260 scientific papers, expressed his opinion in an interview with 360.ru that the possibility of restoring vision with the help of psychological practices is not confirmed by modern ophthalmology.
The doctor also stated that the claims that after laser correction, vision will deteriorate again over time or the eyes will become more "weak" are not true, since the result of correction performed after stabilization of myopia or other refractive disorders persists for many years.
Earlier, on June 30, Lidiya Sadulayeva, an ophthalmologist at the 3Z Moscow clinic, told what dangers a person can face during the summer season. According to the expert, it is at this time that an increase in eye injuries occurs: people often complain that they have injured their eyes with branches of trees or shrubs, as well as that plant pollen, fungal spores, hogweed juice or chemicals have got into their eyes.
