It is noted that the landslide, which occurred after several days of heavy rains, covered the school with mud and debris. Rescuers rescued 13 children from the building, eight of whom died, and the rest were hospitalized for further treatment.

According to the newspaper, most families live in temporary shelters made of bamboo and tarpaulins on steep, deforested hillsides that are prone to landslides during the annual monsoon season.

Local authorities are currently evacuating families from high-risk areas, as heavy rains increase the risk of landslides.
