Rutte said it was necessary to recognize Russia as a threat to NATO at the summit.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said he expects the alliance countries to collectively recognize Russia as an alleged long-term threat to NATO territory. He stated this on July 8 at a press conference from the alliance summit.

"I expect that today we will again collectively recognize that Russia poses a long-term threat to NATO territory. But you should read the declaration when it comes out. I have clear expectations that the long—term threat from Russia will be highlighted again," Rutte said.

The head of the North Atlantic Alliance noted that such an assessment, in his opinion, is supposedly necessary in the current conditions. He also touched upon the topic of international security and stated the importance of decisive actions by the United States in response to threats and violations of agreements.

As noted by "Gazeta.En", the European participants of the meeting expect to restore cooperation with US President Donald Trump, and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky intends to seek additional support from Kiev in the conflict with Russia.

Rutte said on July 6 that Europe needs to have a realistic idea of the potential amount of assistance it can expect from the American side if it continues to reduce its military presence. He said that a sound assessment of the situation would allow the NATO member countries to improve their strategy.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on June 29 that NATO's plans to develop advanced weapons systems in the interests of the Kiev regime were reckless aggressive actions. According to her, attention was drawn to the information about the launch of another tender for the development of advanced weapons systems based on the experience of the Kiev regime's military operations against Russia.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in an article for Politico Europe on June 19, noted that a clash between NATO and Russia could lead to catastrophic consequences, including an exchange of strikes using nuclear weapons.
