US strikes on Iran

On July 7, the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM) announced the start of a series of strikes against Iran in response to attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM later reported that the United States had attacked Iranian air defense systems, command networks, radar stations and other facilities.

The US command clarified that anti-ship missile targets and more than 60 small boats of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were also hit during the operation. According to CENTCOM, the purpose of the strikes was to reduce Iran's ability to continue attacks on international trade in the Strait of Hormuz.

Axios journalist Barak Ravid, citing sources, reported on July 8 that these strikes were significantly larger than the previous attacks carried out about 10 days ago.

On July 8, the central headquarters of the Iranian armed forces, Khatam al-Anbiya, declared its readiness to give a decisive rebuff in response to American strikes on the southern regions of the country.

FIFA to discuss IOC decision on Russian athletes

Sky News journalist Rob Harris posted on the X social network, citing a FIFA statement on July 7, that the International Football Federation (FIFA) would discuss and analyze the possibility of complying with the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the lifting of sanctions against Russian national teams.

"FIFA is aware of the IOC's decision to temporarily restore the membership of the Russian Olympic Committee. FIFA will analyze this decision before deciding on further steps in coordination with stakeholders," FIFA said in a response.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on July 8 that the Kiev regime had decided to "take up sports" after the high-profile assassination attempt on Ukrainian businessman Vadim Ermolaev in Monaco.

"Reich 404 has woken up. They just killed one of their own in Monaco, then they buried some kind of aunt in Kiev, who was blamed for the terrorist attack, they sent the leader to the NATO community to ask for more weapons - all the cases were redone, now you can take up sports," she said.
