Frequent awakenings in the middle of the night can indicate serious health problems. Maxim Novikov, a somnologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg clinic), told about this on Tuesday, July 7.

According to him, frequent nighttime awakenings may be associated with sleep apnea. Due to this pathology, a person wakes up with a feeling of lack of air and suffocation or the urge to urinate.

"Another common option is depression, in which sleep becomes shallow and a person wakes up in the middle of the night, after which he cannot fall asleep again for a long time," the doctor warned in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

He added that with anxiety disorders, falling asleep may be relatively normal, but sleep becomes fragmented.

The somnologist pointed out that nighttime awakenings can also be triggered by heartburn and reflux, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, joint pain, asthma, as well as problems with the bladder or kidneys.

If snoring, leg cramps, a feeling of heaviness, or the need to constantly move your legs are added to nighttime awakenings, it is recommended that you consult a therapist, he concluded.

A neurologist and somnologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences Elena Tsareva, told Moscow 24 how Russian fans who face lack of sleep due to late broadcasts of the World Cup matches in North America can minimize the harm to their health. She recommended recording broadcasts and watching them at an appropriate time, according to 360.ru .

In addition, the expert said in an interview with RT that waking up at night in adults is not the norm, especially if they are not related to external causes.

On July 1, somnologist Pavel Kudinov announced the dangers of sleeping at night in casual home clothes. According to him, it is better to use special clothes for sleeping — pajamas, a nightgown or other things designed for this purpose, and take off casual home and outdoor clothes before resting.

In March, Irina Golovanova, a neurologist of the highest category, a somnologist at the Center for Cognitive and Psycho-Emotional Health, said that in the spring, due to hormonal imbalances in the body, some people may experience anxiety at night and sleep problems, the Moscow City News agency reports.
