Fraudsters, posing as employees of debt relief organizations, began to convince Russian citizens not to pay off loans, but to transfer the required amounts immediately to them for "accompanying" bankruptcy. This was announced on July 7 by Peter Shcherbachenko, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of Russia.

"A new fraudulent scheme has appeared on the Web: under the guise of a quiet life without debts, "loan sharks" earn on gullible citizens. They convince them to stop paying the bank and carry the money to them, for example, 15 thousand rubles a month for bankruptcy support," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The specialist clarified that by turning on such schemes, the attackers competently resort to manipulation. In addition, according to Shcherbachenko, they are increasingly using social engineering methods in scams. All these tricks, he said, help criminals convince their victims to transfer all their property to them.

Then, when the citizen's loan arrears continue to grow, the "assistants" force him to take on a new monetary obligation in order to pay for their alleged services. The expert explained that as a result, the defrauded person not only retains the same loans, but also sometimes has problems with the law.

Shcherbachenko urged Russians to "not wait for a miracle" and, not trusting anyone, directly apply to the bank with a request for a loan vacation.

Two days earlier, the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia said that fraudsters began to involve citizens in dropper chains, promising those who trusted 3-10% of banking transactions. It was clarified that the scammers pretend to be employees of financial institutions and, referring to alleged limits or failures, convince the victim to withdraw all the money, delete the banking application and install a "new" link. With this scheme, criminals also rely on social engineering, endearing themselves to the interlocutor.
