Cosmetologist Anastasia Pantus told on Monday, July 6, how to avoid premature skin aging from the sun.

"Photoaging is the premature aging of the skin caused by chronic exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Unlike natural or chronological aging, which occurs under the influence of age and genetics, photoaging is the result of accumulated solar damage to cells," the expert explained in an interview with aif.ru .

According to the expert, the main role in the process is played by UVA rays. He clarified that UVA radiation penetrates deep into the dermis— the layer of skin where collagen and elastin fibers are located. Under its influence, a large number of free radicals are formed, which trigger the process of oxidative stress. Metalloproteinase enzymes are also activated, which begin to destroy collagen fibers faster than the body has time to synthesize new ones. The skin gradually loses its density and elasticity, becomes thinner and less resistant to external influences.

The first signs of photoaging are a decrease in skin tone, the appearance of a dull complexion, dilated blood vessels, age spots and uneven relief. Then more pronounced age-related changes form, such as wrinkles.

The expert added that the effects of solar exposure have a cumulative effect.

"Our skin remembers every episode of excessive sunlight, and changes can occur years after an active tan craze," he warned.

On the eve of July 5, Christina Nikiforova, a nutritionist at the VERBA Medical Resort, told RT that the habit of abusing ice cream or cold lemonade in the summer can accelerate skin aging and enhance the processes that cause it to lose elasticity, look dull and puffy.

In turn, Ekaterina Kashukh, a gastroenterologist and expert at the Hemotest Laboratory, said on July 2 that persimmons, gooseberries and blueberries reduce skin sensitivity to UV radiation. 360.ru .

Cosmetologists told Izvestia on June 26 that tanning oils do not provide protection from ultraviolet radiation and can create a false sense of security, which increases the risk of burns and skin damage.

At the same time, dermatocosmetologist Isita Daniel said that improper application of sunscreen has become one of the most common mistakes Russians make when protecting themselves from ultraviolet radiation on summer days.

Earlier, in May, Pravda.Ru She wrote that the foundation creates a barrier that prevents the skin from breathing and prevents a uniform tan. In addition, if there is no full-fledged UV protection in the composition, you can get burns, irritation and age spots.
