During the first weekend of July, 668 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 86 people were killed and 847 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on July 6 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. 75 of the dead were drivers and passengers, the ministry said.

As a result of 116 accidents involving pedestrians, 11 people were killed, and another 116 were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured are 24 child pedestrians, 20 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 35 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 81 outside their area of operation.

In the Voronezh Region, on 632 km of the federal highway M—4 "Don", a bus driver carrying 26 passengers collided with a truck moving in front of him in the same direction. As a result of the accident, the bus driver was hospitalized with injuries, ten passengers of the bus were injured and after medical treatment were sent for outpatient treatment.

In the Moscow Region, on 11 km of the Zaraysk — Silver Ponds —Monogarovo—Zhuravna regional highway, a female passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where she collided with a bus carrying two passengers. The incident killed the 6-year-old son of the culprit of the collision, who was in a child restraint in the front seat of the car and fastened with a seat belt, the female driver herself was hospitalized.

117 accidents involving minors were registered over the past weekend, 140 young road users were injured, including 85 passengers and 14 motor transport drivers. Five children were killed.: four passengers and one pedestrian.

In Kaliningrad, an intoxicated passenger car driver, whose driver's license expired in 2018, knocked down three pedestrians — a woman with a baby in a stroller, as well as a second child, who was being led by the hand. Due to the lack of a sidewalk, pedestrians were moving along the edge of the roadway towards the car that hit them. After hitting pedestrians, the car of the culprit collided with another passenger car parked nearby. A 4-year-old pedestrian boy was killed in an accident. The young woman herself, as well as her other child, the eight—month-old sister of the deceased preschooler, who was being transported in a baby carriage, were injured and ended up in the hospital.

In Primorsky Krai, a 7-year-old ATV driver at the intersection of equivalent gravel roads did not give an advantage to a pickup truck moving on the right and collided with it. An 8-year-old passenger of an ATV died in a car accident, who, like his classmate at the wheel, was without protective equipment and a motorcycle helmet. The young driver himself was hospitalized with injuries.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds parents of underage road users of the need to be more attentive to their children, monitor their behavior and leisure time. The absence or weakening of parental control on the street for children often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users, the department notes.

"Always transport child passengers in strict accordance with current safety regulations. Remember that the life and health of young passengers depend entirely on your skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior on the road: avoid dangerous maneuvers and violations of the permitted speed limit. Be attentive, careful and never get distracted while driving, controlling the traffic situation," recalls Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The State Traffic Inspectorate also warns citizens who have not been trained in driving schools and have not received the right to drive vehicles in accordance with the established procedure, or who have been deprived of such a right, from trying to get behind the wheel of a car. Especially in a state of intoxication.

"Drivers who do not have a license, especially if they get behind the wheel drunk, put not only their own lives in real danger, but also the lives of other road users," Belan stressed.

The day before, on July 5, four people died in an accident in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. According to the press service of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a 22-year-old "lawless" driver in a Lada drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a truck.
