The study revealed the main problem of career growth in Russian companies

More than 38% of respondents perceive an increase as an opportunity to increase income, but 30% attribute it to stress and fears of not being able to cope with new responsibilities. Another 19% would never initiate career growth on their own, and 9% try to avoid such changes. This is evidenced by the data from a study of the Russian corporate training platform Teachbase, which was reviewed on July 8 by Izvestia.

Fear of managing people is the leading factor in anxiety: 44% of participants noted it. Also, 41% are afraid of a sharp increase in responsibility, 37% are afraid of the need to quickly master new tasks without support, and 29% do not understand the criteria for career advancement in their companies.

According to 46% of the participants, growth in the company is stress-free only if you prepare for a new role in advance. Another 40% consider it important to have transparent promotion criteria, 35% — a mentor at the stage of adaptation, and 25% — the right to make a mistake when starting work in a new position.

Payment is difficult: half of Muscovites receive less than 115 thousand rubles.

At the same time, employees do not shift responsibility entirely to the employer: 42% believe that both parties should prepare for promotion, 28% — that this is the responsibility of the company, and only 11% believe that this is the area of responsibility of the employee himself.

The founder of Teachbase, Vladimir Shcherbakov, noted that the fear of promotion is more often associated not with the personal qualities of employees, but with the lack of systematic training for managerial roles. According to him, the key mistake of companies is to start training after the appointment.

"Training alone does not solve the problem: only 19% of employees consider it systematic and useful. An effective approach is becoming one in which preparation for a new role begins in advance, is built into the workflow and is accompanied by mentoring," he stressed.

According to statistics, the average salary of over 200 thousand rubles in April 2026 was recorded in six sectors of the economy. It was noted that the highest level of remuneration was recorded in oil and gas production: specialists in this industry received an average of 251.3 thousand rubles.
