Roskachestvo told about the signs of adulterated honey
The cloudy consistency, stratification of the product, odors and tastes unusual for honey, as well as the absence of documents indicate falsification. This was announced on July 5 in Roskachestvo.
"Natural honey has a liquid or thick consistency. Counterfeit or poor-quality honey may have a cloudy consistency or delamination, and sediment may be present. The aroma of natural honey is light, pleasant, and characteristic of the variety. The counterfeit may have an extraneous smell," the organization told RIA Novosti.
Experts note that the taste of the product directly depends on its variety. As a rule, it is sweet and pleasant, however, in some varieties a slight bitterness is acceptable. For example, buckwheat honey can cause a sore throat. At the same time, a fake may have an extraneous taste, including caramel or sour.
The quality of real honey must be confirmed by documents, in particular a veterinary certificate.
"When buying, give preference to trusted and reliable manufacturers and points of sale. In addition, pay attention to the presence of the Russian Quality Mark on the packaging — the labeling guarantees that the product meets the mandatory safety requirements and high quality standards," Roskachestvo advises.
In addition, the organization recalled that amendments to the federal law on beekeeping in the Russian Federation came into force in 2024. According to the document, honey is determined by the product classifier, technical regulations and standards.
On July 1, Roskachestvo reported that a new GOST for honey began to operate in Russia. The standard defines the terminology for mead, as well as establishes the physico-chemical and organoleptic characteristics of the drink, requirements for raw materials (including honey), technological auxiliary materials, packaging, labeling and safety indicators. In addition, additional criteria are included in the document to identify possible cases of falsification.
