The death toll from earthquakes in Venezuela has increased to 2,645 people.

The death toll from the twin earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 2,645 people. This was announced on July 3 by the press service of the Ministry of Communications and Information of the country (MIPPCI).

"2,645 dead, 12,666 injured. 6,462 rescued," the ministry said in a Telegram channel post.

According to official data, more than 15 thousand people remain homeless in the republic. To date, the authorities have provided assistance to 86,117 families. 59 temporary accommodation camps have been opened for citizens who have lost their homes.

The Government distributed almost 10,000 tons of food, tens of thousands of food packages and 500,000 liters of drinking water to the victims. Medical assistance was provided to 20,909 victims.

Why the restoration of the republic may take many years

The earthquakes in Venezuela occurred on June 24. The epicenter was located 60 km northwest of the city of Valencia, as well as 28 km northeast of San Felipe. The earthquake was the strongest in the country since 1900.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on June 25 that Russia was considering the possibility of providing humanitarian assistance to Venezuela. The European Union, in turn, allocated €5 million for emergency assistance to the republic.
