Turkey has announced its desire to join the Single Euro Payment Area

Turkey has sent a letter to the European Payments Council (EPC) expressing its interest in joining the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). This was stated on July 2 in a joint statement on the results of the high–level economic dialogue between the European Union (EU) and Turkey on the website of the EU delegation to the country.

The parties noted that Turkey's potential participation in SEPA will accelerate, make safer and more cost-effective cross-border payments, as well as promote trade and investment growth between Turkey and Europe.

The economic dialogue in Istanbul was co-chaired by European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Valdis Dombrovskis and Turkish Minister of Finance and Treasury Mehmet Šimšek. Representatives of the European Investment Bank, the EBRD and the Development Bank of the Council of Europe also participated in the meeting. "Газета.Ru ".

The joint statement stresses that in the context of increasing geopolitical fragmentation and economic risks, sustainable international partnerships are becoming particularly important, and Turkey remains a candidate country and a key partner of the EU.

It is also noted that relations between the EU and Turkey should develop taking into account the principles of the rule of law, democracy, human rights and freedom of the media, which, in the opinion of the parties, is important for strengthening economic confidence and the business environment.

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar said on June 26 that the new Hungarian government intends to ensure the country's accession to the euro zone by 2030, despite recognizing the complexity of this task. He stressed that at the time of Hungary's accession to the EU 22 years ago, Budapest was closer to this transition than it is now, while the level of support for joining the eurozone among the population is 75%.
