- The State Duma talked about the specifics of the employment of teenagers in the summer
Employers are required to establish shorter working hours for underage employees and to conclude employment contracts with them in a timely manner. This was announced on July 3 by State Duma Deputy Dmitry Svishchev.
The parliamentarian noted that during the summer holidays, teenagers are actively looking for their first job, which becomes an important step into adulthood for them. At the same time, the current legislation provides for a number of special features in the employment of such citizens.
"A shortened working day has been established for minors. Under the age of 16, you can work no more than 24 hours a week, and between the ages of 16 and 18, no more than 35 hours a week. It is forbidden to involve teenagers in night work, weekends and holidays, overtime, shift work," Svishchev explained in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The MP stressed that from the age of 14, young people can sign a contract to perform light labor with the written consent of one of their parents. As a rule, such a permit is not required from the age of 15, and from the age of 16, employment relations are formalized on a general basis, with the exception of prohibited types of work for minors.
"The registration of an employment contract is an employer's responsibility, not a right. Without a contract, work is considered illegal, and it will be impossible to protect the rights of a child in the event of a conflict," the parliamentarian added.
One of the mandatory conditions for hiring is a preliminary medical examination. According to Svishchev, persons under the age of 18 must undergo it annually at the expense of their employer.
Lawyer, member of the Union of Blogging Lawyers at the Moscow State Law Institute. Kutafina and the Association of Lawyers of the Russian Federation Evgenia Baldina said on July 3 that pregnant women, parents of children under the age of 14 and those caring for sick relatives have the legal right to transfer to part-time work.
