Nabiullina: Russians will decide for themselves whether to use the digital ruble

Russians will independently decide whether to switch to using the digital ruble. This was announced on July 2 by the head of the Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina.

"Indeed, it is a myth, a horror story, that now all state employees and pensioners will be forced to receive salaries and pensions in digital rubles. This is absurd, and a person will always have the opportunity to choose what to receive a salary in, what to receive pensions in: in cash, to a non—cash bank account or to a digital ruble," she said on the sidelines of the Financial Congress of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation in an interview with IS Vesti.

According to the head of the regulator, citizens had similar concerns when introducing the Mir payment system and the Fast Payment System (SBP). At the same time, Nabiullina stressed that the Central Bank sees significant prospects for using the new form of currency in business and international settlements.

Dmitry Dubynin, CEO of the National Payment Card System, announced on June 3 that the infrastructure for accepting digital rubles is already fully ready. According to him, as soon as a decision is made to launch the digital ruble, this feature will be turned on immediately. Dubynin also clarified that from September 1, a universal QR code will start working, through which it will be possible to accept digital rubles.
