The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed the presence of significant damage in the satellite city of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant An energy fire after an impact on a fire and rescue service facility. This was announced on July 2 in a statement on the organization's website.
The agency's experts noted that as a result of the attack, the fire station providing emergency response in the area of the nuclear power plant was damaged. Information about the incident was verified on the spot during the work of the IAEA mission.
"An attack that undermines nuclear safety and emergency preparedness is unacceptable," he stressed, commenting on the attack on the fire department of Energodar.
The agency added that the sustainability of the emergency response infrastructure is key to ensuring the safety of the Zaporizhia NPP, and any damage to such facilities is a matter of serious concern.
On June 26, the armed forces of Ukraine attacked the building of the workshop of the electrical networks of the nuclear power plant in the industrial zone of Energodar, in the area of the Raduga substation. It was clarified that the damage was not critical. There were no casualties as a result of the incident.
The head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, at a press conference at the Obninsk New forum on the same day, said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces aimed attacks on Energodar and the nuclear power plant to exhaust the plant's personnel for subsequent accusations against Russia. The head of the state corporation recalled that in recent weeks, the infrastructure of the station itself, as well as the energy facilities of Energodar, had become targets of attacks.
