- More than 820 thousand gas stoves have been checked in Moscow since the beginning of the year
Since the beginning of 2026, specialists from the Moscow municipal economy complex have checked more than 820,000 gas stoves in residential buildings. This was announced on Thursday, July 2, by the Deputy Mayor of the capital for Housing and Communal Services and landscaping, Peter Biryukov.
According to him, gas safety issues are under special control, so scheduled maintenance of the entire gasified housing stock is carried out annually. In the first six months of the year, experts checked more than 820,000 gas stoves — almost 46% of their total number. Biryukov noted that gas workers fix minor malfunctions on the spot, and if serious violations are detected, they take measures to ensure safety and make recommendations for further operation or replacement of equipment, Moscow 24 writes.
The deputy mayor recalled that the owners and tenants of housing are responsible for the proper condition and timely replacement of gas equipment. According to him, today more than 1.8 million Moscow families use gas stoves. The average service life of such equipment is 10-12 years, after which the gas taps wear out, the burner dividers deform and the thermal insulation of the oven is disrupted, so safe operation becomes impossible without replacing the stove, the Moscow City News agency reports.
Biryukov also stressed that modern gas stoves should be equipped with a "gas control" system that automatically cuts off the gas supply when the flame is extinguished.
