The verdict in absentia of actor Artur Smolyaninov (recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent, entered in the register of terrorists and extremists) for fakes about the Russian army was recognized as legitimate. This was announced on July 2 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the hall of the Moscow City Court.

Earlier, in April, the actor was sentenced to eight years in prison and banned from administering websites for four years. At the same time, in the arguments of the parties, the prosecutor requested nine years and 10 months of imprisonment for him.

Smolyaninov was charged under paragraphs "b" and "d" of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, committed by a group of persons motivated by political hatred"). The person involved is currently on the international wanted list.

Smolyaninov was arrested in absentia in October 2024. In February of this year, the Investigative Committee of Russia completed the investigation of the case against the actor. In addition, he was given a preventive measure in the form of seizure of property.

In 2023, the Russian Ministry of Justice included Smolyaninov in the register of foreign agents. And in May of the same year, the actor was included by Rosfinmonitoring in the list of terrorists and extremists.
