The priest explained the meaning of the consecration of fruits on the Apple Savior

The consecration of fruits on the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord symbolizes gratitude to God for a new harvest, but the popular name "Apple Savior" does not reflect the spiritual content of this event and is associated with the projection of the agrarian calendar on the church calendar. This was announced in a conversation with Izvestia by the cleric of the church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious in the city of Vidnoye, Priest John Stepanchuk.

He explained that on the day of the holiday, believers bring apples, grapes and other fruits of the new harvest to the temple for a blessing, which, according to him, is "mistakenly called sanctification." At the same time, the clergyman stressed that the folk name itself is not connected with the theological meaning of the event.

"We see from the text of the prayer that there is no indication of any specific fruit or fruits, for example, apples or grapes, which are traditionally brought to the church on the Transfiguration of the Lord for "sanctification." Prayer is deep in its meaning and reflects the ancient tradition of bringing the first fruits of a new harvest to God," he said.

According to the priest, this tradition existed among both ancient Jews and ancient Christians — with the help of sacrifice, believers thanked God for the harvest.
