The international Chess Stars tournament has started in Moscow

Famous grandmasters and aspiring athletes met at the chessboard in Moscow. The prestigious international Chess Stars tournament started in the capital on July 2.

On the first day of the competition, the titled players who make up the elite of world sports were opposed by those who are just starting their careers. They made the masters worry, as a result, several games were drawn, and some of the newcomers even managed to win and thereby please the opponent.

"We have a lot of talented children in Russia, I want to help them, I want them to grow up. <...> Chess Stars is a tournament where they can play with us on the same court, compete in a session, come up, get an autograph and take a picture. It's just great," explained Valentina Gunina, Honored Master of Sports of Russia, three—time winner of the World Chess Olympiad.

Simultaneous gaming sessions, blindfolding sessions, workshops and autograph sessions are just a warm-up. The next few days will be fought between grandmasters from Russia, Azerbaijan, India and China. The participants will have to fight first in rapid, and then in blitz.

On June 25, Russian chess player Valeria Kleimenova prematurely won the World Championship among boys and girls, which was held in the Italian city of Montesilvano. In the penultimate, 10th round, Kleimenova, playing with white pieces, beat her compatriot Leila Tabermakova. The game ended on the 59th move. At the end of the meeting, Kleimenova scored 9.5 points, becoming inaccessible to her pursuers.
