The Pentagon has deployed about 2,000 troops to assist Venezuela.

The Pentagon has sent approximately 2,000 troops to Venezuela to assist the republic affected by the powerful earthquake. This was announced on July 1 by the head of the Southern Command of the US Armed Forces, General Francis Donovan.

"U.S. Armed Forces, Department of War <..."[they sent] about 2 thousand colleagues to land, air and sea near Venezuela," CBS News quoted him as saying.

The soldiers involved in this operation, as Donovan explained, are helping the Venezuelan side in conducting search and rescue operations, restoring infrastructure, and also facilitating the delivery of necessary supplies to local residents.

The earthquakes in Venezuela occurred on June 24 and became the strongest in this country since the beginning of the 20th century. As of July 1, 2,295 people became victims of the seismic event, and over 11.2 thousand were injured. According to the International Organization for Migration, which is part of the United Nations, this incident could affect up to 6.7 million people.

Moscow, as stated by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova, is already considering the possibility of providing humanitarian assistance to Caracas. The European Union, in turn, allocated him €5 million for emergency assistance.
