- The ex-intelligence officer named the reason for choosing Monaco for the assassination attempt on Ermolaev.
The Principality of Monaco was chosen as the location of the assassination attempt on Ukrainian businessman Vadim Ermolaev to ensure maximum resonance of the crime. This was announced on July 1 by Claude Monique, a former employee of the Directorate General for External Security of France (DGSE) and co-founder of the European Center for Strategic Intelligence and Security (ESISC).
"The volume is determined by the choice of location. Ermolaev regularly visited Nice and other places. However, "they" decided to strike at him in Monaco, one of the safest places in the world, where surveillance cameras are installed every 20-30 meters," Monique said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The expert added that in the principality there is one police officer for every 60 inhabitants. According to the agency's interlocutor, the choice of criminals in favor of an explosive device filled with shrapnel was also not accidental.
"There is no doubt that the presence of a powerful explosive device and shrapnel clearly demonstrates the intention to kill, it was not just a warning," Monique stressed.
On June 29, Le Figaro newspaper reported an explosion that occurred in the historic center of Monaco. Then it was noted that three people were injured in the incident, and after a while it became known that one of the wounded turned out to be Ermolaev.
This incident, which could have been a "warning" to a businessman from the Security Service of Ukraine, was condemned by Prince Albert II of Monaco. Political analyst Oleg Vedutov said on June 30 that what happened in the principality is an internal Ukrainian showdown that arose against the background of the criminal struggle in Ukraine. On June 1, the media learned about Ermolaev's plans to expose corruption in Ukraine in the European Parliament.
