The United Nations (UN) has financial resources only until the end of August–September of this year. This was announced on July 1 by Assistant Secretary General for Program Planning, Finance and Budget Chandramuli Ramanathan during a briefing.

"We won't have any money left after August, September. The money will run out," he said. A recording of the briefing is available on the UN television website.

Ramanathan noted that the organization expects to receive contributions from participating States, which are necessary to continue its work after September. The UN also admitted that in the absence of additional funding, the organization could end the year in a budget deficit and work in austerity mode.

The Wall Street Journal reported on May 29 that the United Nations is on the verge of bankruptcy due to the fact that Washington and Beijing began withholding multibillion-dollar contributions due to it. It was clarified that the US debt exceeded $ 4 billion, China owes $455 million, although it transferred almost $ 850 million.
