The Russian Ministry of Health has prepared a draft updated standard for the treatment of depression. This was reported on July 1 by TASS with reference to the document.

It is expected that the new regulatory act will replace the current standard approved in 2022.

According to the project, the list of possible treatments for depression may include electropuncture, electrical neurostimulation of the brain, transcranial magnetic stimulation, electroconvulsive therapy, as well as plasmapheresis, ultrafiltration of blood and low-intensity laser therapy, including intravenous blood irradiation.

The document also provides training using biofeedback based on electroencephalography data for diseases of the central nervous system, methods of hypoxic exposure and exposure to visible range radiation.

In addition, it is planned to expand laboratory diagnostics. Thus, patients with depression are planned to be additionally screened for hepatitis, HIV and treponema pallidum.

German Gref, President and Chairman of the Management Board of Sberbank, said on June 30 at the annual shareholders' meeting (AGM) of the credit institution that in order to avoid depression, stress and anxiety, a person should enjoy today and avoid excessive planning. Now the "planning horizon," as Gref explained, is starting to tend to zero due to the development of technology.
