A social campaign on road safety has started in the Moscow region

A social campaign "Safety Promotion" has been launched in the Moscow region, aimed at reducing the number of accidents at intersections, a Izvestia correspondent reports from a press conference in the government of the Moscow Region on July 1.

The Moscow region has become the first of 40 regions in which this social campaign will be held, said Vladimir Kuzin, chief expert of the department for coordination of activities in the field of road safety at the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Major General of Police.

The campaign is designed to remind motorists of the need to slow down before crossing roads, strictly comply with traffic light requirements, and constantly monitor road signs and markings that may change during the adjustment of traffic patterns on a particular section of the road, the Traffic Police said.

"Our task is to make traffic at intersections as safe as possible, increase the culture of behavior of road users, instill in them a responsible attitude towards their actions on the roadway, and call for mutual respect. Large-scale information and preventive work with all road users plays a key role in this process," Kuzin stressed.

The Moscow region was not chosen by chance, Kuzin noted. Here, as well as in 39 other regions of the country, where this campaign will also be launched in the near future, there is an excess of accident rates at intersections over the average value in Russia, he said.

According to the results of five months of 2026, 247 road accidents were registered at intersections in the Moscow region, which is 24.5% less than in the same period last year, said Police Colonel Vladimir Sevostyanov, deputy head of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Moscow Region. In such accidents, 19 people died and 312 were injured. These figures are also lower than the results for the same period last year — by 45.7% and 12.8%, respectively.

At the same time, 77 car accidents occurred at regulated intersections, and most of these incidents in the region occurred at unregulated road intersections, Sevostyanov noted. According to him, the most difficult situation with road accidents is developing in the city districts of Podolsk, Shchelkovo, Domodedovo, as well as in Yegoryevsk, Krasnogorsk and Shatura.

Earlier, on June 25, it was reported that the share of Russian drivers who have the maximum discount for trouble-free driving under CTP for the shifted calendar year increased from 37.3% to 42.9%. The largest share of car owners with the maximum discount is recorded in Moscow.
