Toyota will produce aircraft

Toyota, together with the American aviation company Joby Aviation, announced the creation of a joint venture (JV). It was named Joby Toyota Aero Manufacturing Preparation Company. The strategic manufacturing alliance will focus on creating the foundation for mass production of electric aircraft, the companies said in a joint statement.

Toyota and Joby Aviation have not yet disclosed the details of the project, but noted that the joint venture will be based in California, and the Japanese automaker will own a controlling stake of 51%, Carscoops said. The idea of the collaboration is to combine Joby Aviation's expertise in electric aviation with Toyota's expertise in manufacturing and operational efficiency.

Going forward, the alliance should help expand Joby's production capacity to certify aircraft and meet the expected growth in demand for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. As Toyota Chairman of the Management Board Akio Toyoda noted, aerial mobility is a natural extension of the company's philosophy, which is to ensure mobility for all.

Joby Aviation has been receiving investments from Toyota for almost 10 years. The company is developing an air taxi, its six-engine aircraft can carry four passengers and a pilot and reach speeds of 322 km/h. The model is equipped with four batteries, rotating propellers and various backup systems to enhance safety.
