In Russia, GOST has been approved for the height and durability of beer foam.
A new interstate GOST for beer drinks has entered into force in Russia, which provides for a reduction in foam performance requirements. This was announced by Rosstandart on July 1.
According to the document, the minimum foam height is now set at 15 mm, and the foam resistance index should be at least one minute. Before these changes came into force, the regulations were twice as strict: the foam height was supposed to reach 30 mm, and the retention time was three minutes, TASS notes.
Other parameters are provided for certain product categories, such as non-alcoholic beer drinks and juice drinks. The foam height for them should be at least 20 mm while maintaining foam resistance for at least one minute.
In addition, the new standard introduces regulated deviations in the strength of products. For all types of beer drinks, with the exception of non-alcoholic beverages, the permissible deviation from the declared volume fraction of ethyl alcohol is set at +/-0.5%.
On the same day, the new GOST for honey began to operate in Russia. It was clarified that mead can be filtered and unfiltered (clarified and unlit), as well as pasteurized, unpasteurized or processed by cold sterilization.
