Vance said the United States is using the "carrot and stick" method in negotiations with Iran

Washington uses the "carrot and stick" method in the process of resolving the conflict in Iran. This was announced on June 30 by Vice President of the United States Jay Dee Vance.

"The Iranians have not attacked ships [with oil] in the last couple of weeks, oil is passing through the Strait of Hormuz partly due to the fact that the President [of the United States Donald Trump] has made it clear that if the Iranians attack ships, we will attack in response. Sometimes this issue requires carrot and stick," he said in an interview with The Michael Knowles Show YouTube channel.

Vance also said that the United States receives "both positive and negative" signals from Iran during the negotiation process. He expressed the hope that diplomatic efforts would allow the parties to reach an agreement.

In addition, the US vice president criticized Tehran's statements about the lack of negotiations with Washington. According to him, despite public denials, technical consultations are continuing between the United States and Iran on a possible peace agreement. He called Iran's similar rhetoric "annoying Persian tactics."

On June 29, Trump announced talks with Iran in Doha. They were supposed to take place on Tuesday, June 30th. The White House noted that Washington will be represented at the consultations by special envoys of the US President Stephen Witkoff and Jared Kushner. However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagai denied these statements, stressing that no meetings with Washington "are planned in the near future."

Nevertheless, on June 30, Al Jazeera TV channel announced the arrival of Kushner and Witkoff in Doha for talks. Bloomberg news agency, citing sources, added that the consultations between the United States and Iran were "positive." It was clarified that progress continues in some technical negotiations conducted by lower-level representatives.
