"Last night, I decided to end my work as the head coach of the Netherlands national team. Looking back on my career, I feel first of all pride and gratitude," Koeman wrote on Instagram (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

He noted that he had worked for Vitesse, Ajax, Benfica, PSV, Valencia, AZ, Feyenoord, Southampton, Everton, Barcelona, and had also been coach of the national team twice.

"We all dreamed of a World Cup where we would make history. This did not happen. No one is more disappointed by this than me. As the head coach, you bear this responsibility. I've always felt it, and I always will," Koeman said.

In addition, he expressed gratitude to the players, staff, the Royal Netherlands Football Union and the fans.

"I say goodbye with mixed feelings. Of course, I would prefer to finish my job with the orange world title. Unfortunately, this dream has remained unfulfilled. But above all, pride wins," Koeman concluded.

The national team of Morocco defeated the team of the Netherlands in the match of the 1/16 finals of the FIFA World Cup. The meeting took place on June 29. In the penalty shootout, the players of the Moroccan national team turned out to be stronger — 3:2.
