Mikhalkov announced plans to charge a percentage of the rental of foreign films

Part of the income from the rental of foreign films in Russia is planned to be used to finance the domestic film industry. This was announced on June 30 by Nikita Mikhalkov, Chairman of the Union of Cinematographers of the Russian Federation, People's Artist of Russia.

"This will be a serious help to our cinema, because a percentage of the rental of foreign films will be used to refinance domestic cinema. In addition, an "entrance ticket" will be paid — just so that a specific foreign painting can be viewed, so that it gets on the screen. This practice was not invented by us, it exists, for example, in France, in China. And this absolutely does not mean that we will not see foreign films," he said in an interview with TASS.

Mikhalkov stressed that this measure is only one of the elements of the draft laws being developed. The amount of deductions, according to him, will be determined by experts taking into account economic calculations.
