Most modern cars are not designed to install gas cylinder equipment (GBO). Ilya Plisov, Deputy General Director of EvrAuto, a member of the Board of the Union of Car Service Stations, told Izvestia on June 30.

"Switching the engine to gas is good for trucks, gazelles, buses. If you decide to transfer a passenger car, then you must have very serious reasons to do so. Modern engines, which are designed only for gasoline, are reluctant to work with gas. Old cars with classic engines are more or less suitable," Plisov said.

The expert noted that it is necessary to install HBO only in a certified company.

"If you do it yourself or not with a certified company, then you will have problems with documents and security. <...> The cost of even a small mistake [during installation] is very high: gas leakage, fire, explosion. Therefore, this should be done only by specialists," Plisov explained.

He added that the appearance of an extraneous sound and the smell of gas may indicate an incorrect installation of HBO.

"Sprayed gas is very flammable, especially since the car has an ignition system, and there is static electricity that can form. The probability of fire is very high," Plisov warned.

Auto expert Alexander Kovalev reported on June 29 that one of the most expensive engines to maintain for passenger cars is BMW's V8 4.4 petrol turbo engine with the N63 index. This is a popular unit, it was installed on models such as X5 and X6, as well as the 5th and 7th series. According to the expert, this is a powerful but extremely expensive engine.
