The psychologist pointed out the benefits of Nordic walking for the psyche
Clinical psychologist Daria Salnikova told how Nordic walking heals the psyche. In an interview with Radio 1 on Tuesday, June 30, she said that the main benefit of Nordic walking and any regular physical activity is not only in strengthening muscles, but also in its effect on the brain and hormonal system.
According to her, physical activity activates muscles and blood circulation, and the hormonal system is the foundation of mental health. The specialist noted that people often associate a bad mood with thoughts, although it is often caused by biochemical processes in the body.
Salnikova explained that a sedentary lifestyle and prolonged smartphone use contribute to a decrease in dopamine levels, a hormone of motivation and pleasure, as well as an increase in cortisol levels, a stress hormone. According to her, moderate but regular physical activity helps restore hormonal balance. At the same time, Nordic walking combines aerobic exercise in the fresh air with handwork, which improves blood circulation and stimulates the production of endorphins and serotonin.
The psychologist emphasized that the regularity of classes is of key importance. She noted that training once a week cannot be considered regular, whereas training three times a week already has a noticeable effect. According to Salnikova, sports have a positive effect on both physical and mental health, and Nordic walking does not act as a means of instant relief, but provides a cumulative effect, helping the body not to fall into sudden "dopamine pits."
In May, physiotherapist Pavel Megey called for Nordic walking instead of regular walking. According to him, unlike regular walking, where the main effort goes to the leg muscles and partly to the body, Scandinavian walking actively involves the shoulder girdle and deep back muscles, distributing the load more evenly, notes Life.ru .
