Tokayev told Putin about his impressions of his recent visit to Brussels

At the end of June, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev paid an official visit to Brussels, where he held talks with the leadership of the European Union (EU). Details of Tokayev's visit to Brussels

Tokayev visited Brussels on June 22-23 at the invitation of the Head of the European Council, Antonio Costa. During the visit, he met with Costa, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Prime Minister of Belgium Bart de Wever, and also participated in the Kazakhstan-EU round table with representatives of major European companies.

The visit resulted in commercial agreements worth over $12 billion. Tokayev also met with Tony Blair, Executive Chairman of the Institute for Global Change, Philippe Pascal, CEO of Groupe ADP, Lache Sobredo, Deputy CEO of Inditex Group Santiago Martinez, and Eduard Zigriste, Senior Vice President of the Mediterranean Shipping Company.

A conversation with Putin

Later, on June 30, Putin and Tokayev had a telephone conversation. The Kremlin's press service reported that the Kazakh leader shared his impressions of his visit to Brussels. No other details of the discussion of this topic were provided.

It was also reported that the presidents of the two countries discussed the implementation of mutually beneficial bilateral projects in the trade, economic and energy fields. Putin and Tokayev continued to discuss topical issues of the development of Russian-Kazakh relations of comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance in line with the agreements reached during Putin's state visit to Kazakhstan in May 2026.

Relations between Putin and Tokayev

The Kremlin has not publicly commented on the results of Tokayev's Brussels visit. At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed on May 27 that Putin and the President of Kazakhstan had a "special personal relationship" that allowed them to constructively address current issues.

At the end of May, the Russian president also paid a state visit to Kazakhstan. Tokayev pointed out that Russia's cooperation with the republic has reached an unprecedented level, and this is the merit of the President of the Russian Federation. Putin's visit to Astana demonstrated qualitative changes in bilateral cooperation and confirmed the special status of relations between the two countries.

Putin noted that the Russian-Kazakh talks on May 28 were productive and efficient. He stressed that he had discussed topical international issues with the Kazakh leader. The next day, the Russian leader noted that all the goals of the trip had been achieved during the visit.
