The number of days with NMU has tripled in Krasnoyarsk

An increase in the number of days with adverse weather conditions (NMR) was recorded in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. In the first half of 2026, this regime was in effect for 140 days, while for the same period a year earlier it was 41 days.

Such a noticeable increase in numbers is due to a change in the regulatory framework, the regional Ministry of Ecology explained. New requirements for NMR forecasting came into force on March 1, 2026.

According to KrasnoyarskMedia news agency, the forecast is now divided into general and specialized. In this case, 140 days is the general forecast that the Central Siberian UGMS now officially announces for all settlements in the region.

The reason for the introduction of the NMR regime is the weather conditions leading to the accumulation of pollutants in the surface layer of the atmosphere. These are high temperatures, weak winds, fog and unfavorable wind direction.

However, the introduction of a general forecast does not mean that the air is already polluted. During the NMR regime, enterprises are required to immediately reduce emissions in order to prevent a critical accumulation of dangerous chemicals.

That is, now statistics show not a deterioration in the environmental situation, but on the contrary. The more days the NMR operates, the longer enterprises work to reduce emissions and their impact on the atmosphere.

Previously, scientists found out that the melting of permafrost triggers a hidden geological process that can compensate for carbon dioxide emissions. However, this mechanism cannot be considered as a definitive solution to the problem of climate change.
