Not all cut flowers get along equally well in one vase, so the wrong combination of plants can shorten the life of even the freshest bouquet. Natalia Kolganova, a florist at the FMART by Flowwow flower studio chain, told Izvestia on July 2 which bouquets are best not to put together in summer and how to prolong the freshness of the flower arrangement.

According to the expert, hydrangeas require special attention. These flowers actively absorb water and are extremely sensitive to its purity and level. Because of this, in mixed bouquets they can wither differently than other plants. Therefore, it is better to place hydrangeas in a separate vase or especially carefully monitor the condition of the water.

"Lilies are not always suitable for mixed compositions either. They have a rich aroma that can interrupt the smell of other flowers, and their pollen can stain the petals of neighboring plants. In addition, large lily buds often visually dominate the bouquet, so they are recommended to be combined only with flowers that are suitable in size and expressiveness," Kolganova explained.

Caution should also be exercised when making bouquets with peonies, sweet peas and other delicate seasonal flowers. As the expert explained, they have a shorter life span in a vase than many resistant plants. As a result, some of the composition may lose its decorative value much earlier than the rest of the colors.

Despite the versatility of roses, it is also important for them to choose the right neighbors. According to the florist, a combination with particularly delicate seasonal flowers can cause the bouquet to lose its attractive appearance due to the different opening rates of the buds and the plants' need for water.

One of the most common mistakes the expert calls the placement of flowers next to fruits. Apples, bananas, pears, avocados and some other fruits emit ethylene gas, which accelerates the wilting of cut plants. Therefore, it is recommended to place the vase away not only from direct sunlight and heat sources, but also from the fruit basket.

To prolong the life of a composite bouquet, the specialist advises changing the water daily, thoroughly washing the vase, regularly pruning the stems and timely removing flowers that have begun to fade earlier than others. Such care will help keep the composition fresh and tidy much longer.

The specialist clarified that, on average, a bouquet of irises will cost 2,722 rubles, tulips — 3,080 rubles, dianthuses — 3,223 rubles, and alstroemeria — 3,894 rubles.
