Former Polish Prime Minister criticized the creation of the national "pantheon of heroes" of Ukraine

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, wishing to create a pantheon of heroes of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA, an organization recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation), first of all harms his country, which will have to answer for this. This was announced on June 29 by former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

"He (Zelensky. — Ed.) announced the creation of a national pantheon and stated that "no one will tell Ukraine which heroes it should respect." But Poland will not bear the consequences of such a historical policy. First of all, Ukraine itself will pay for this," he wrote on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

The Ukrainian leader, as Morawiecki explained, builds his identity on suppressing the facts about the victims of the nationalists. According to the Polish ex-prime minister, Zelensky's actions make it difficult for his country to join the European Union (EU) on its own.

On the same day, Morawiecki clarified that the president of Ukraine had given Warsaw a "slap in the face" with his decision to create a "pantheon of outstanding Ukrainians" and also to award him the title of UPA. EP deputy Eva Zayonchkovskaya-Hernik also criticized Zelensky, accusing him of outright arrogance.

Against this background, Janusz Cieszynski, a member of the Polish opposition Law and Justice party, added that Ukraine may not expect to join the EU if UPA members are really included in its pantheon.

Zelensky has already been stripped of the Order of the White Eagle, Poland's highest state award, for his decision, and was also called an "unwelcome guest" in Warsaw.
