Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, said on June 29 that the shortage of energy resources for air conditioning in the European Union (EU) countries was due to the abandonment of nuclear energy and a reduction in the use of Russian energy resources.

"The EU is struggling with air conditioners not because of the alleged effects of global warming, but because there is not enough energy for their operation due to erroneous and irresponsible decisions to reduce nuclear and Russian energy," a message on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Dmitriev noted that everyone should have the right to a working air conditioner in hot conditions. According to him, silencing the erroneous decisions of the European authorities can lead to the "suicide of civilization."

On June 27, Reuters reported that residents of French cities were temporarily moving to air-conditioned hotels due to the intense heat. So, on June 24 in Paris, the temperature reached a record high of 40.9 degrees Celsius for this month.
