A letter from 11 European gymnastics federations asking them to ban the Russian flag and anthem at competitions is typical hysteria. This was announced on June 29 by State Duma Deputy Dmitry Svishchev.

"This is a typical hysteria that some countries raise on the eve of major competitions. But the decision is made by the organizer, that is, the international federation," he said.

Svishchev stressed that the international federation has already made its decision about Russia, which must be respected. The deputy added that otherwise she is obliged to react promptly and harshly.

A day earlier, the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) sent an appeal, along with 10 other countries, to the European Gymnastics Union, demanding to discuss the issue of banning Russians and Belarusians from performing with national symbols at European competitions. Before that, the text of DTB's letter to European Gymnastics appeared on the web. It is noted that, given Europe's geographical proximity to the conflict, it is necessary to find an effective way to resolve the confrontation between Ukraine and Russia with Belarus within the framework of official European gymnastics competitions.
