On June 28, the Canadian national team beat the South African team in the match of the 1/16 finals of the FIFA World Cup, which takes place in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

The match in Los Angeles ended with a score of 1-0 in favor of the hosts of the tournament. Stephen Eustakiu scored the winning goal in the second minute of the second half.

Defender of the Canadian national team and Bayern Munich Alfonso Davis played his first match at the tournament after injury. He came on as a substitute in the 75th minute and received the captain's armband.
