Hong Myung-bo has resigned as head coach of the South Korean national team.

Hong Myung-bo resigned as head coach of the Republic of Korea national football team after the team's performance at the 2026 World Cup. This was reported by the Yonhap news agency on June 28.

The South Korean team finished third in Group A. The national team scored three points and failed to secure entry into the World Championship playoffs.

"Today I am resigning from the post of head coach of the national team. I would like to apologize to our fans who love Korean football and support the national team," Hong Myung Bo said.

He also took full responsibility for the team's poor performance.

The specialist is 57 years old, he has been in charge of the country's main team since 2024. The coach's employment agreement was calculated until the end of the Asian Cup in 2027. As a football player, Hong Myung Bo reached the fourth place with the national team at the home World Cup in 2002.
