- The editor-in-chief of the Swiss edition of Weltwoche called on Europe to engage in dialogue with Russia
Europe needs to engage in dialogue with Russia and stop "acting blindly." This was announced on June 28 by Roger Keppel, editor-in-chief of the Swiss edition of Weltwoche, at the Democratic congress of the German Alternative for Germany party.
"We Europeans have to talk to other Europeans. Russians are Europeans, we are Europeans, and we must restore this world and stop acting blindly, in an information vacuum and complete self—deception," said Keppel.
According to the journalist, Europe is heading for a major war due to the fact that the European Union and some NATO countries are convinced that they are "on the right side of history."
"This is a war that, in my opinion, the West — Europe, Germany and Switzerland — are not ready for. <...> We must ask ourselves: do we want to follow this path, or do we finally want to break out of this voluntary blind run and start doing what should be taken for granted in a democracy, in a European society: to seek dialogue, especially with those whose opinions we do not share, whom we even reject it?" added Keppel.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed on June 19 that Moscow does not abandon contacts with Europe, but perceives it as a party directly interested in Russia's defeat in Ukraine, and the Europeans themselves openly position this. It is noted that in such circumstances, the dialogue with Europe cannot be built as if it were an impartial observer.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted on June 25 that European countries had become the main obstacle to a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. She also stated that Ukraine, spreading statements about its supposedly imminent "overreach" and trying to convince its allies of this, is seeking an escalation of the conflict and new supplies of military and financial assistance from the West.
